Intel XMM 7160 Multimode Modem: Multi-RAT Support

Intel has recently introduced a multimode modem solution that boasts support for multiple bands and Radio Access Technologies (RATs). This modem aims to provide a versatile connectivity solution for various devices.

The XMM™ 7160 platform finds its application in tablets and ultrabooks. Notably, the LTE version of the Samsung GALAXY Tab 3 also incorporates this modem for its cellular connectivity.

Key Features of XMM 7160

The XMM 7160 supports a variety of modes, including:

  • 2G (GSM/EDGE)
  • 3G (HSPA+)
  • 4G LTE

It’s designed for global roaming and boasts support for 15 LTE bands. The modem supports both voice and data applications.

  • Configurable RF architecture for multiband support.
  • Envelope tracking & antenna tuning capabilities.

Future Developments: XMM 7260

Intel is actively working on the XMM 7260, which is expected to bring LTE Advanced features, including:
