This page describes EMF meter features or specifications and lists EMF meter manufacturers or vendors.

As we know, electromagnetic waves are generated using either AC or DC current. These waves consist of electric and magnetic fields, which are perpendicular to each other.

Electromagnetic radiation comes from many sources, including cell towers, electric cables, power lines, transformers, TVs, and wireless internet devices. Measuring these EM waves is important for several reasons. EMF meters are the tools used for these radiation measurements, employing sensors or probes to do the job.

There are two main types of measurements performed by EMF meters:

  • Broadband: Measures the total electromagnetic field strength over a wide range of frequencies.
  • Frequency Selective: Measures the electromagnetic field strength at specific frequencies.

Knowing the level of EM radiation is desirable for things like finding ideal locations for base stations, WiFi Access Points, and determining room areas where interference is minimal for bedrooms, living rooms, etc.

Key Features and Specifications to Consider

Before purchasing an EMF meter, consider the following features and specifications:

  • Frequency Range: The range of frequencies the meter can accurately measure. You’ll want to choose a meter that covers the frequencies relevant to your concerns (e.g., cellular, Wi-Fi, power lines).
  • Span of Measurement: The range of field strengths the meter can accurately measure, usually expressed in units like V/m (Volts per meter) for electric fields or µT (microTeslas) or mG (milliGauss) for magnetic fields. Make sure it’s sensitive enough for the levels you expect to encounter.
  • Price: The cost of the equipment you can afford. EMF meters range from relatively inexpensive to very expensive depending on their features and accuracy.
  • Range of Detection: How sensitive the meter is to weak electromagnetic fields.
  • Measurement Requirement: Whether you need to measure electric fields, magnetic fields, or both. Some meters measure only one, while others measure both and sometimes microwave radiation as well.

EMF Meter Manufacturers and Vendors
