This page defines 4G LTE coverage and discusses AT&T and T-Mobile’s LTE coverage in the USA.
AT&T and T-Mobile are 4G LTE service providers in the USA.
Definition: LTE coverage is the geographic region served by LTE Base Stations (eNBs). Within this region, LTE network signals are available, transmitted by LTE-compliant eNBs. These coverage areas utilize two main topologies: TDD (Time Division Duplexing) and FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing).
LTE-compatible phones can access the LTE network to obtain high-speed voice and data services.
Fig-1: TDD Vs FDD LTE Coverage
FDD generally provides better coverage over larger areas due to its dedicated downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) frequencies, compared to TDD.
TDD, however, offers higher downlink capacity with its flexible DL/UL ratio within the LTE frame structure.
Combining LTE TDD hotspots with LTE FDD macrocells can enhance capacity and expand LTE coverage.
Figure 1 illustrates TDD vs FDD LTE coverage.
