Lightwave RF is a technology used for home automation, operating on the 433.92 MHz frequency band. A typical Lightwave RF network consists of controllers and slaves. The controllers directly manage the slaves up to a distance of 15 meters indoors and 30 meters outdoors.

Typically, a network supports 64 devices, and each device can be paired with up to 6 controllers or sensors. The coverage range can be extended using Lightwave RF boosters.

Since Lightwave RF applications are generally limited to small homes or areas, no routing protocol is implemented. Slave devices do not provide acknowledgements to the controllers, meaning there’s no direct way to confirm if a transmitted message has been successfully received.

To enable control via smartphones or laptops using the internet, WiFi connectivity has been integrated into the Lightwave RF system.

Applications

Using Lightwave RF technology, users can monitor and control various household items, including:

  • Lighting and power products (dimmers, sockets, CFR bulbs, LED lights, energy monitors, energy savers)
  • Heating products
  • Air conditioners
  • Door entry products (door switches)
  • Audio and video equipment
  • Security systems

It also allows control from PCs, smartphones, and iPhones using a Lightwave RF Wi-Fi link and a Lightwave RF-enabled control device like a remote control. Lightwave RF products are widely available in the UK, often featuring UK-style sockets. Lightwave RF home automation is relatively affordable, with a fully functional network achievable for around £20-£30.

Lightwave RF Product Manufacturers

Lightwave RF products range from controllers and sockets to switches, accessories, heating solutions, bulbs, sensors, and door chimes. Look for the green Lightwave RF symbol with a tilde sign within a circle on these products.
