Altera Corporation has announced its latest Generation 10 FPGAs/SoCs, including the Arria® 10 and Stratix® 10 families. These new devices, some with embedded processors, leverage cutting-edge manufacturing processes: Intel’s 14nm Tri-Gate technology and TSMC’s 20nm process.
Stratix 10: Powerhouse Performance and Integration
The Stratix 10 FPGAs and SoCs are designed to deliver the highest levels of performance and system integration. Key features include:
- Blazing-Fast Transceivers: Approximately 56Gbps transceivers for demanding bandwidth requirements.
- Massive Logic Density: Over 4 million Logic Elements (LEs) on a single die, enabling complex designs.
- DSP Powerhouse: More than 10 TeraFLOPs of single-precision DSP performance for accelerating signal processing tasks.
- Next-Gen Processor: 3rd Generation ultra-high-performance processor cores integrated into the SoC variants.
Arria 10: Optimized Performance and Efficiency
Before the Stratix 10 launch, Altera introduced the Arria 10 family, focusing on delivering a compelling balance of performance and power efficiency. Key features include:
- Substantial Logic Capacity: Approximately 1.15 million LEs for a wide range of applications.
- Enhanced Processor System: A 2nd Generation processor system with a 1.5GHz ARM® Cortex™ A9 processor for embedded processing needs.
- Increased Bandwidth: A fourfold increase in bandwidth compared to previous generations.
- High-Speed Transceivers: 28 Gbps transceivers to support high data throughput.
- Advanced Memory Interface: Support for 2666 Mbps DDR4 memory.
