This page provides a Hata model path loss calculator and explains the formula behind it. This calculator is particularly useful for estimating path loss in small to medium-sized urban environments.

Hata Model Path Loss Calculator

Use this calculator to determine path loss based on the Hata model.

Enter the values as described in the example to calculate the path loss.

Inputs

Outputs

Example:

  • INPUTS:
    • Frequency = 900 MHz
    • BS antenna height = 100 m
    • MS antenna height = 2 m
    • Distance = 4 Km
  • OUTPUTS:
    • a(hm) = 1.29 dB
    • Path loss = 137.05 dB

Hata Model Path Loss Formula

The following Hata model path loss formula is used in this calculator:

Hata model Path Loss Formula

Where:

  • fc is the carrier frequency (in MHz)
  • hb is the base station antenna height (in meters)
  • hm is the mobile antenna height (in meters)
  • d is the distance between the base station and the mobile (in Km)
  • a(hm) is a correction factor (the formula for this varies depending on whether it’s an urban or dense urban environment)
