Radar Range Resolution Equation
Another important parameter in a radar system is its range resolution. It is directly related to the pulse width, as described by the equation below.
Range resolution represents the smallest distance between two distinct targets that the radar can differentiate. If targets are closer than this minimum distance, the radar won’t be able to tell them apart; they’ll appear as a single target.
The range resolution can be improved through a process known as pulse compression. FM chirp is a common compression method where the radar carrier frequency is swept over a fixed range using a ramp function.
