The following are industry standard bodies: IEEE, CPRI, ITU, 3GPP, WiMAX Forum, Wi-Fi Alliance, and Zigbee Alliance.
Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI)
The Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) is a collaborative industry effort that defines a publicly available specification for the key internal interface of radio base stations between the Radio Equipment Control (REC) and the Radio Equipment (RE).
CDMA Development Group
European Telecommunication Standard Institute (ETSI)
The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) produces globally applicable standards for Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), including fixed, mobile, radio, converged, broadcast, and internet technologies.
Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
The mission of the IETF is to improve the internet by producing relevant technical documents that influence how people design, use, and manage the internet.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
IEEE is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for humanity. They develop the 802 family of standards, for example:
- 802.11 for Wireless LANs
- 802.15 for Wireless PANs
- 802.16 for Wireless MANs
ITU (International Telecommunication Union)
ITU is the United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs). They allocate global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, develop technical standards that ensure networks and technologies seamlessly interconnect, and strive to improve access to ICTs to underserved communities worldwide.
Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)
The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) unites six telecommunications standards bodies, known as “Organizational Partners,” and provides their members with a stable environment to produce Reports and Specifications that define 3GPP technologies. Standards such as GSM, GPRS, EDGE, W-CDMA, HSPA, LTE, and LTE-Advanced are published by this body.
UMTS Forum
Mobile broadband is changing the way the world communicates. The UMTS Forum helps all players in this dynamic new value chain understand and profit from the opportunities of 3G/UMTS networks and their Long Term Evolution (LTE).
WiMAX Forum
The WiMAX Forum® is an industry-led, not-for-profit organization that certifies and promotes the compatibility and interoperability of broadband wireless products based upon IEEE Standard 802.16. The WiMAX Forum’s primary goal is to accelerate the adoption, deployment, and expansion of WiMAX technologies across the globe.
Wi-Fi Alliance
The goal of this alliance is to drive new Wi-Fi applications and products and certification of the products.
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community that develops open standards to ensure the long-term growth of the Web. Includes web applications on mobile, web architecture and many more.
Zigbee Alliance
Established in 2002, the Zigbee Alliance is an open, non-profit association of members that has created a thriving global ecosystem. They have created a growing family of innovative, reliable, and easy-to-use ZigBee standards.
