This page provides information about Bluetooth test service providers capable of certifying Bluetooth devices according to Bluetooth specifications. It covers various Bluetooth tests and measurements performed during Bluetooth certification testing.

What is Bluetooth?

Bluetooth is a global wireless standard that enables wireless connections between a range of electronic devices, such as mobile phones, medical devices, PCs, headphones, wireless speakers, etc. It eliminates the need for wires by connecting devices wirelessly over short distances (approximately 100 to 150 meters) using the 2.4 GHz ISM bands.

Bluetooth is primarily used for low data rate, high-quality data transmission/reception, as well as for streaming audio between devices.

Bluetooth Certification Test Parameters

There are various versions of the Bluetooth standard, including v1.0, v1.2, v2.0, v2.1, v3.0, v4.0, v4.1, v4.2, v5.0, and v5.1 (latest). Bluetooth versions 4.1 and above are referred to as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

Bluetooth device certification should cover various specifications as published by the Bluetooth SIG under these specifications. The major Bluetooth certification test parameters are based on radio, physical layer, link layer, and so on.

BLE Protocol Stack

The following are the basic physical layer and radio characteristics that need to be verified during Bluetooth certification by respective test providers:

  • Frequency bands (2400 to 2483.5 MHz)
  • Modulated power spectrum as per GFSK/π/4-DQPSK/8-DPSK.
  • Frequency deviation (It should be smaller than 115 KHz for BR/EDR, and less than 185 KHz for LE.)
  • Frequency hopping (1600 hops/sec or 3200 hops/sec)
  • Transmit power and range
  • Receiver sensitivity (It should be -70dBm at 0.1% BER for BR and LE modes, and -70 dBm at 0.01% BER for EDR mode.)
  • Maximum data throughput
