  • Lower Power Requirements: It requires less microwave power because cancerous cells can be heated quickly. Furthermore, there’s less energy dissipation in soft tissues at greater depths, except near the skin’s surface.

Disadvantages of RF Chemotherapy

While offering numerous benefits, RF Chemotherapy also has some disadvantages:

  • Power Sensitivity: If the RF power level is too high, it can damage the healthy tissue surrounding the treatment area.

  • Frequency Precision: The RF source’s signal frequency must be carefully set. Incorrect settings can reduce penetration depth while increasing resolution. Higher microwave frequencies result in higher resolution but lower penetration.

  • Requires Skilled Radiologists: RF chemotherapy requires skilled and experienced radiologists. It cannot be administered by individuals without proper training and knowledge of radiology.

  • Cost Considerations: In some hospitals around the globe, RF chemotherapy services can be expensive.

  • Hospital Setting Requirement: The treatment is not available for home administration. Patients must visit the hospital for each treatment session, adhering to the schedule prescribed by their doctors.
