This page describes the international Morse code chart along with the Morse code alphabets. As we know, Morse code was one of the most widely used means of communication before the advancement of modern technology.

After the worldwide development in radio frequency communication, Morse code has been used across the world.

The following table lists the Morse code used for characters and numbers required to form message compositions. The telegraph used Morse code, whereas radio telegraphy used an international code of dots and dashes. This is a digital form of transmitting information from one end to the other.

When the armature is closed for a short duration, a dot is produced. When the armature is closed for a long duration, a dash is produced.

With basic training, any human can be trained to send and detect/decode messages at high speed using Morse codes. The figure above depicts an old form of Morse code telegraph used.

As shown, a key turned the carrier of a transmitter OFF and ON to generate the dots and dashes. These Morse codes are detected at the receiver and converted back to letters and numbers to make up the message. This type of Morse code-based communication is referred to as continuous wave (CW).

Morse Code Alphabets and Numbers

Morse code is basically composed of two elements: dots & dashes. The dots have a length of one unit, while dashes have a duration of about three units in time.

Characters and numbers in Morse code are represented by dots (”.”) & dashes (”-”).

EXAMPLE: SOS is represented as ”…---…” in Morse code format.

The following table is an international Morse code chart mentioning codes representing alphabets and numbers.
